TOWN OF MARATHON RESIDENTS ARE TO CALL 911 FOR ALL FIRE, AMBULANCE, AND
EMERGENCY SERVICES.
- Trash and Recycling Information:
- Town Residents should place garbage dumpsters at the end of the
driveway to avoid obstructions in driving lanes. Liability would occur
if an accident happened. Please have dumpsters out by 6:00 AM.
Please put your garbage in bags and tie them shut before throwing in the
dumpster to avoid garbage flying out of the trucks. This helps keep our
roads and ditches clean. Thank you. 2026 Trash and Recycling Calendar
- Dog Licenses:
- By law, all Dogs must be licensed. This licenses is to be purchased
at the time your taxes are paid. ANY DOGS NOT LICENSED will be billed a
$5.00 Late Fee. (Note: The dog license fee structure is set by the
County: $20-Males/Females, $12-Neutered/Spayed dogs, $10-Puppies, $6
Neutered/Spayed Puppies, $80 Kennel , $12 Extra Kennel Tags)
- Town Hall Rental Fees:
- The hall rental fee for residents is $325. this includes a $200
security deposit. There will be a $25 charge if you cancel. The town
hall may be rented the day before for a fee of $50 for 4 hours if the
town hall is available. Call the Town Chairman to reserve your date.

- Snow Removal:
- Pushing snow or other materials onto or across highways and roadways
from private driveways can cause accident and death. As discussed
at the 2025 Annual Meeting, the Town of Marathon will bill actual
expenses to persons plowing snow across the road if any expense occurs
because of it. Obstructions of vision clearance triangles at
intersections is prohibit by WSS 86.92 and by section 2.15 of the County
Zoning Ordinance. Avoid penalty and liability and cooperate
towards safer highways and roadways. The life you save may be your own.
- Tax Returns:
- A large portion of the State Shared Revenue we receive is based on the
population of the TOWN OF MARATHON. The State receives this count from
the information you supply them on you State Income Tax Return.
Therefore PLEASE be sure you list the TOWNSHIP OF MARATHON as your place
of residence on your Income Tax Return. This also holds true for your
vehicle registration. If you have rental property, ask your tenants to
do the same. If we receive our fair share of these State revenues, we
will hopefully continue to keep our Tax Levy for the Town at a minimum.
- Cemetery Sites:
- The Town of Marathon will be selling cemetery sites to any Town of
Marathon Residents. The cemetery is located next to St. Mary's and St.
Matthew's formerly known as Potters Field. Please call Keith Langenhan
at 715-218-1929.
- Building Permits:
- Building Permits are required in the Town of Marathon. Please contact
Marathon County Planning and Zoning (CPZ) at 715-261-6000 for details to
have one issued. Marathon Co.CPZ
- Burning Permits:
- The State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has eliminated
the Emergency Fire Warden Position as of December 31, 2017. Burning
permits must be obtained from the DNR Website Wisconsin Burning Permits or at the DNR
office in Rib Mountain. Wisburn
- Fire and Burning Conditions
- Temporary Driveways:
- Permission from the Town of Marathon Board is required for temporary
driveways, Temporary driveways installed and not removed in designated
time will be removed by the town and charged to the landowner.
- Placement of Signs:
- Please remove all field corn/soybeans signs in a timely manner. The
signs need to be removed in the fall of the year. When placed in the
spring, the signs should remain on the landowner's property.
- Ditch Dumping:
- For proper drainage, ditches in the Town of Marathon need to be kept
clean of debris (rocks, leaves,and lawn clippings, etc.) Offenders will
be cited for littering.
- Septic System Reminder:
- If you are thinking of selling your home, you may need to have an
inspection of the septic system and do what the report requires prior to
the sale. Talk to your realtor.
